June Treatment Recipes
Greetings!
Welcome to the June Treatment Recipes!
So when you want to quickly smooth out before showing of your swimsuit this summer, mix up a batch of the following lively scented body bars - wonderfully exhilarating on the skin and great for rough heels as well!
Orange Licorice Whip Exfoliating Soap
(a.k.a Corn and Callus Care)
32 oz. Honey Melt and Pour Soap Base
8 T. White Cornmeal
6 T. Pumice, extra finely ground
2 T. Bentonite Clay or Kaolin Clay
1 T. Sandalwood Powder (optional for a rich brownish red color)
2 1/2 T. Corn and Callus Care Pure Essential Oil Blend (recipe to follow)
Add 1 inch cubed soap base to a 2 quart Pyrex (or any microwavable dish) measuring cup, and cover the top with a piece of plastic wrap. Leave a tiny opening to let steam escape. Microwave soap base for 2 minutes, remove from oven and stir. Put back in oven and microwave for 1 1/2 minutes, remove and stir. Put back and microwave for 1 minute, remove and stir. Soap should be close to melted. Place back in oven for 30 seconds, remove, stir and continue this process until all soap is completely melted.
When soap has cooled down just a bit, whisk in dry ingredients and essential oils. Mix every couple of minutes until soap base has cooled, somewhat thickened, and all dry ingredients stay suspended. Whisk once more and then pour mixture into soap molds. (I used the foot shaped Milky Way Soap Mold that have four molds per sheet - you get about 6 bars per above recipe batch.) Spray the top with rubbing alcohol to pop bubbles and leave surface texture smooth.
If you need soap that day, place molds in the freezer, and check after 20 minutes. Soap shouldn’t take too much longer to set. When completely hardened, push thumbs on the bottom of mold, underneath each soap bar, and gently pop them out of the mold. The only problem with freezing is you will ruin the integrity of these plastic molds faster. They tend to crack when using this method over just letting them air set. Pat soap dry and place in cello bags with a nice ribbon.
You can find good quality, natural honey soap base at www.brambleberry.com - I have been a satisfied customer of theirs for years. I also recommend their olive, hemp, and goat’s milk melt and pour soap bases.
Corn and Callus Care Pure Essential Oil Blend
4 teaspoons, or 20 ml of Orange oil
1/2 teaspoon, or 3 ml of Fennel oil
1/2 teaspoon, or 3 ml of Clove Bud oil
Gently blend oils together by rolling them in a closed dark glass bottle (amber/cobalt/emerald). Do not shake. (It’s not a martini!) Blend 15 drops to 1 ounce of your favorite carrier oil (such as sesame, apricot kernel, olive, avocado) in a dark glass bottle, and massage a few drops into any rough dry areas that you have (Great for softening hardened skin on feet, elbows, and knees), then buff with the above soap or just a plain manicurist’s nail file.
A very comforting and delicious scent, yet highly antiseptic, and detoxifying.
This uplifting aroma really lightens up a room when diffused. Great for a softening blend added to a foot bath with Dead Sea Salts. It also makes a fantastic foot lotion for relaxation massage before Reflexology.
See our Scent page for the many different ways to use Essential Oils and for precautions regarding their use.
Cautions: Avoid this blend if pregnant, have seizure disorders, kidney disease, or liver disease. Not to be used by women with high estrogen levels, breast cancer, or endometriosis (because of the Fennel) Clove Bud oil is a potential skin irritant, so even though it smells so innocently delightful, it must be diluted, and of course, patch tests are always recommended before using on the entire body. Citrus oils increase the skin’s sensitivity to light so don’t use before going in the sun.
