Professional Equipment Reviews
The Hot Towel Cabinet
Bar none, this is the most useful piece of equipment (besides my table) I have ever purchased for my Reflexology and massage practice. You can use hot towels:
- On feet prior to Reflexology, massage or a pedicure
- On hands prior to Reflexology, massage or manicure
- On feet and hands to begin warming the entire body
- On the back to warm up muscles prior to massage
- To remove face and body scrubs and masks
- To warm massage oil or lotion
- To warm oils for hot scalp massage treatment
- To warm gel for body contouring
Some considerations when using:
To warm oils, lotions and gels - wrap bottle in an already heated towel and leave in the warmer for a few minutes, check for suitable warmth before treatment, and make sure bottle is in no way touching the sides or bottom of the warmer. You may want to leave top a bit loose to keep from pressurizing, and make sure you remove bottle after it reaches desired temperature to prevent bursting.
Towels don’t stay warm for very long, but long enough to start the relaxation process, or to melt/moisten a sugar/salt scrub or mask for easier removal. Most likely you will be using these towels on body parts, and the application will be fast, however there are still situations where the use of heat even for such a short time would not be indicated.
Contraindications to heat include:
- Over broken capillaries on the face
- Any joint or tissue where inflammation is present (The 5 signs of inflammation are if the area is red, hot, swollen, painful, or if there is loss of use)
- Over the abdomen, low back or pelvis for pregnant clients
- Infections
- Conditions where there is a tendency towards bleeding/hemorrhage
- Peripheral nerve damage where client experiences a loss or impairment of the sensation of heat
- Any areas where there may be a malignant growth
- Edema
- Medications that may make one more sensitive to heat
- Be extra careful with elderly clients and children
I purchased mine from ebay - Massage Warehouse has a store with them and I got it for about $160.00. It has certainly paid for itself and is still running strong.
