Spring Ahead!

wedflowers142.jpg

Don’t forget to change your clocks tonight, Sunday, March 9th at 2am.
(For those of you not in the States, please disregard this message!)

A couple of years ago around this time, I had the distinct honor of doing the flower arrangements for my sister and brother in law’s wedding. It was a lot of fun – something I really loved doing.

The day we decided on the types of flowers, the Parrot Tulips were talking to us as the Bells of Ireland were chiming, and the Kermit Poms were serenading us with “Rainbow Connection” – throw a few vibrant Lilys, Alstroemeria and Gerbera Daisies into the mix and it sure felt like love in the springtime to me!

Greetings!

For those of you who live in the South Bay, or for those of you who just really enjoy a good fair and don’t mind traveling a bit to get there – pack up your sun glasses and SPF this coming Sunday, and head on over to Wilson Park!

Revel in the fresh air while you take pleasure in viewing inspiring works of art and fine handmade crafts, as well as sampling some delicious curbside fare. It’s a great time to pick up gifts for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Graduations or Weddings.

While you are there, you must look up my friend Silvia, and try on some of her gorgeous Healing Stone Creations. Not only are they stunning to look at, but the stones in these necklaces feel so good, you won’t want to remove them – come find a few that talk to you, and enjoy her magnificent paintings as well!

My friend Claudia will be there too with her hand crafted
Herbal Therapy Wraps and Eye Pillows, along with her newly created Back and Abdomen Wraps. She has a full line of gemstone Pet Charms, Energy Balancing Sprays, Gratitude Boxes, Key Chains and more, all created with a whole lot of LOVE!

Wilson Park is a beautiful place where you can stroll along peaceful paths, and picnic under majestic trees along a tranquil duck pond.
So go hang out at the park this Sunday, and make a whole day of it – there is certainly plenty to do – or just do nothing – whatever your pleasure!

Arlene Yakush – Digital Imagery

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

Getty In the morning, I sit under the umbrella at the Getty while I drink my first coffee of the day.

In the afternoon, I become just one of the many sheep in the herd, traveling the countryside near Mount Etna.

In the early evening, I am one with the lake as I sit upon its bank.

These are just a few of the places Arlene has taken me to, through the grace of her eye behind the lens. Many of her photographs adorn my walls. Her compositions repeatedly lure me to locations I have yet to see with my own vision, but where I feel at home, find great comfort, and experience complete serenity.

Whether it is a classic photograph, or a deftly manipulated digital image, Arlene has the ability to capture the essence of a moment in time and space – in all of its beauty, clarity and magnificence.

Orly Avineri -Fine Art, Graphics, Textiles & Murals

ora source

I had the privilege recently to meet with Orly in her home. From the moment you walk through the door you are sweetly introduced to her world. The scent of rosemary leaves burning, the subtle rhythms of the desert in Israel, the vibrant colors and rich textures found on the walls, in the fabrics, in the photographs, in the stunningly simple presentation of tea snacks – ginger bread and sliced blood orange.
This is Orly’s realm, and it is very comfortable and peaceful, and you look forward to staying awhile.

Her art is a true representation of her – brilliant, multi-dimensional, harmonious, accommodating, and extremely versatile. She has extensive experience in the many facets of graphic design, textile design, fine art, and illustration – each lending itself effectively to a variety of different purposes.

Breathtaking, bold, and moving …
This one has to be one of my all time favorites.

Silvia lives her art. Whether it is meticulously working on one of her paintings, designing one of her magnificent Healing Stone Creations, blending her fabulous essential oil perfumes, or giving a transforming Reiki session.

Her paintings are all very colorful and alive, just like her – and they inspire great joy! They must be experienced. To view additional works by Silvia please click here.

Excellent Trumpet Player, Exceptional Teacher

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

In search for the perfect trumpet teacher last year, we were fortunate to get connected with Megan Swan, trumpet player extraordinaire, musical virtuoso, and all around really wonderful person.

Classically trained at USC Thornton School of Music, Megan also plays and teaches other genres of music such as jazz, rock and world. Her philosophy about music with regards to instructing children and adults alike, is that it is “part discipline (practice) and part pure enjoyment, and you cannot have one without the other.” Her goal is to train students the “techniques they will need to be able to play what they want at their best, so they can reap the rewards music can bring.” She does this beautifully!

Since one of my sons began trumpet lessons with her, my other son decided to take piano, and she does equally well giving guidance with both instruments. As co-director of the Young Musicians Performance Academy (YMPA) in Hermosa Beach, she and her partner provide instruction for beginning, intermediate, and advanced jazz band students for South Bay youth.

For a glimpse at Megan’s trumpet playing, click here
and check her out in Kanye West’s band (first trumpet player on the left) on the Jimmy Kimmell Show.
