My neighbor is a peacock.
He lives just two blocks down.
The first time I caught a glimpse of him,
I nearly hit the ground.
His beauty takes my breath away,
his grace gives me delight,
but nothing could have impressed me more
then when this bird took flight.
He landed on a roof top that was three stories high.
It seemed my pretty peacock friend was a wee bit shy.
I stopped a man walking down the street and told him
“Hey, check out this sight.”
He followed my gaze, turned back eyes ablaze, and said,
“Yeah, I know he keeps me up all night.”

What a nice poem Donna…I love it..I wonder how your neighbor got to reside in the tall and skinny neighborhood…I would think that such a wonder needs his space….

Thanks Orly,
Yes it is unusual – he is all alone, which is kind of sad. I know they have flocks of them in Palos Verdes, but to see one here where there isn’t much land to speak of is quite odd, and I didn’t know they were that big on flying so I wonder if someone dropped him off. In any case he makes me so happy -a beautiful way to start the day!

Donna, what beautiful pictures, I love the composition. And that poem is just fantastic. Didn’t know we had such great poets in the family. Now I know where the boys get it.
I would love to see your friend sometime. let me know when he’s in the neighborhood.
Donna says: Thanks for appreciating my goofiness – great poetry? …I am not so sure…big smile!

So maybe we should ambush Mr. P, and bring ‘him’ to PV where he’ll have room and fellow birds to roam around with…the poor thing..

From what I hear, his type are not that easy to catch, and I am thinking that he could be someone’s personal pet because he always hangs out in the same part of one particular block and animal control hasn’t gotten involved yet – it would seem he might be happier in PV, but I am a bit intimidated not only by his striking beauty but those formidable looking feet – I don’t know, you might be on your own with that task….

loved the poem Don, really made me smile, made me happy, and that is what poetry is for to elicit emotion, so you did do a great job and the photos were stunning!
